USING VOICE ON THE INTERNET

Background

“Mr. Watson – Come here – I want to see you.” With those few simple words Alexander Graham Bell and his invention (the telephone) forever changed the way the world communicates over long distances.

In many ways, computers have become for the twenty-first century what the telephone was for the nineteenth. Just as Bell was stepping into new territory with his invention, the World Wide Web has had to face its own challenges in developing an effective and easy way to integrate its system with voice.

In recent years several new technologies have emerged attempting to bring voice to the internet. Systems for online phone services have come and gone using what is called voice over internet protocol (VoIP). Audio chat rooms, instant messaging, and streaming audio are finding ever increasing audiences.

The simple fact is that most systems have serious flaws.

• Many require expensive equipment and software;
• Broadband speed connections are required for systems such as VoIP;
• Sound recording on a computer is complicated;
• Attaching links to audio files often require one’s own web hosting service;
• One can overflow someone’s mailbox with lengthy attachments;
• Many websites do not provide for audio or attachments.

There is an answer.

There is an easier and more effective way to use audio on the internet. Did you know that you can now record your voice and attach it to e-mails, blogs, websites, and more with the ease of a couple of clicks on the keyboard? Imagine the benefits of using voice on E-bay auctions, sales websites, online dating services, and networking services such as MySpace and YourTube? The person on the other end can then go to a link and listen to your voice. They can do the same and you can have a conversation via the internet. As more and more people start using this technology, audio will become the norm instead of the exception when using the internet.

Benefits

Everyone would agree that there are benefits to using voice instead of typing. For one thing it is easier to say something than to type it. For another, text can never convey emotions with the ease and confidence that hearing your voice can convey. Imagine being able to better instill credibility online by allowing people to hear your voice instead of inserting emoticons?

In the competitive world of the future, being able to use voice along with text, pictures, charts, and spreadsheets will become more important than ever. Using audio is more “real”, friendly, personal, and intimate. Nothing conveys confidence like hearing someone’s voice.

Ease of use

There are online services now that are helpful to people who do not have the time to type and store data. It is immediate and has all the convenience and benefits of voice greeting cards, joke sites and more. These services also provide the benefit of allowing you to send a link instead of having to use lengthy attachments that take forever to download.

Conclusion

In this day and age of complicated and inadequate communication why not use the newest technology to give you that edge? SayAndPost is a completely free program that takes only moments to download onto your own computer. At only 192 kb’s, downloading this application is almost instantaneous and it does not take up much valuable space on your computer.

All you have to do then is record your voice retrieve your URL link and you are able to immediately post your audio message online.
